Ellie Torres

Hidalgo County Commissioner Precinct 4

Ellie Torres is the first woman to serve as Hidalgo County Commissioner for Precinct Four, where she has been committed to improving the quality of life and growth for citizens of the area and the county as a whole. In just four years, she has secured millions of funding for drainage improvements, paving and improving over 64 county roads, and installing street lights and Wi-Fi access points in rural neighborhoods. Torres has also worked with local cities and school districts to create new and improved parks and established the first-ever rural bus stop in San Carlos. She is a community advocate who believes in fairness, equity, and equality for all and has devoted her life to public service. With over 24 years of experience in the education sector, she encourages post-secondary education as a plan for success, inspired by her own personal struggles and wise encouragement from her father, who only attained a 2nd grade education. Torres is a small business owner and has been married to her husband for 37 years, raising three children and being a proud grandmother of five grandchildren. Torres believes her purpose is to inspire hearts and minds and takes pride in giving back to her community and family.
