About the event

Brittany L. Gabrielson, Attorney at Law. Brittany attended college on a golf scholarship and graduated from the University of Texas Pan American with a BBA in Accounting. She then attended St. Mary’s University School of Law, graduating in the top 12% of her class. While in law school, as an Associate Editor for the St. Mary’s Law Journal, she published an article called: “To Settle Or Not To Settle?: The Calculation Of Judgments Among Non-Setting Defendants In Texas.” She also received the Outstanding Staff Writer Award and Scholarship for her article, and the St. Mary’s University Pro Bono Award.

She has been a licensed and practicing attorney since November of 2000. She worked for a local firm for 5 years. When her daughter was born, she opened her own firm The Law Office of Brittany L. Gabrielson. She served on the Hidalgo County Bar Association Board of Directors and received an HCBA Outstanding Volunteer Award and HCBA Member of the Year Award.

For the past 13 years, her main role is mother to her children. She practices primarily Probate Law, Wills and Estates and some business law part time and is also a very successful jewelry business entrepreneur.

Brittany will speak on the Importance of a having a Will (or Trust) and the Ancillary supporting documents. She will discuss the various documents necessary to protect yourself and your family such as Powers of Attorney, Medical Powers of Attorney, Directives to Physicians, Declaration of Guardian, and DNR’s.

Each one has their own importance and she will discuss what each one is and the significance of each. She will share several anecdotes from her practice about these documents and what can happen if they are not in place. She will also share a couple of tips about life insurance and bank accounts. Attendees will be able to fill out a DNR and leave the meeting with that document in place. She will include a checklist handout for attendees wanting to draft these documents.
