Karen Cano was born in the vibrant city of Mexico City before she was whisked away to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she spent most of her childhood. At the tender age of 12, she was placed in Foster Care due to unfortunate circumstances, but that did not stop her from making the best out of a difficult situation. Throughout her life, Karen has always strived to turn obstacles into opportunities, and that same determination saw her attain her GED through Michigan State University's high school equivalency program (HEP). Karen's story is one of resilience and determination, which was epitomized when, at the age of 23, she became a United States Citizen. This momentous achievement gave her the opportunity to obtain custody of her special needs brother and, later on, adopt her other brother through kinship adoption in 2016. Karen's unwavering commitment to her family and her pursuit of a better life for them led her to Rio Grande Valley in Texas in 2018, where she enrolled in cosmetology school at Vogue College. Today, she is a licensed cosmetologist and a resident stylist at Blo Bar Gardenia in North McAllen, where she works her magic on clients while sharing her bubbly personality. Karen is not just a skilled professional, but she is also a pillar of her community, which she serves through her voluntary work as a member of NHPO and a volunteer for Latinas in Progress HWNT. Her involvement in community activities reflects her deep-rooted belief in the power of people and the need to make a difference in their lives. In her free time, Karen enjoys running 5Ks, spending time with her adorable three-year-old son, Elliott, and being involved in community events that empower and uplift others. Karen's life is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of life. She is an inspiration to all those who have faced adversity and come out on the other side, stronger and better for it.
