Maria Dolores Castillo-Cavazos (Dee)

Dee was born in San Benito, Texas to Dionicio and Dolores Castillo. Born and raised in their small family farm, with her three sisters and two brothers, she learned the values of family and hard work, by working in the fields picking cotton, irrigating crops, and tending to the family’s livestock. Graduating from Rio Hondo High School in 1977, she proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1982, with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Generic Special Education from Pan American University, Edinburg, TX . Continuing her education in 2002, she received a Behavioral Strategist Certification, from Region One, in Edinburg, Texas. In May 2010, she earned a Master’s in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University, in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2014, she retired from teaching after 32 years. Presently, she is working as a Consultant with Sharon Wells Mathematics, home office in McAllen, TX. She has been working with the community through organizations like Hispanic Women's Network of Texas member since 2017, Starr County Retired School Educators Association, Vice-President, Pan American Round Table of Rio Grande City-Roma, Director/one year), South Texas College Mentor Program (Volunteer, Beta Sigma Phi (Member 20+ years), Lay Ministry for Juveniles Detention Center (Lady of Refuge Church, Roma, Texas), Catholic Religious Education Classes, and Catholic ACTS Team Leader and Member.
